If your insurance policy fully covers your sessions you will not need to pay unless you cancel or do not attend as explained below. Some people have an excess on their policy, in which case you will pay this directly to me. We will discuss this further before you begin your sessions. Further, for your information, often when your policy renews annually, your excess will be due again.
-
My cancellation policy is 72 hours – if you cancel within 72 hours or don’t attend a session and we aren’t able to rearrange the appointment within the same week, the fee will be payable. Insurance companies do not cover non-attendance, if an insurance company pays for your sessions and you do not attend or cancel within 72 hours you will need to pay the fee yourself.

Before you begin counselling with me I will ask you to have an initial conversation that is either online or on the phone. Many people can be quite anxious about their first therapy sessions and it can be anxiety provoking. An initial conversation can be chance to get to know each other to see if we are a good fit to work together.
These are some more things that you need to know about our initial conversation:
There is no cost for the initial conversation, it is Free
It will take between 30-40 minutes.
It will take place online or on the phone. (I don’t offer the first two appointments in person. Once we have got to know each other online we will discuss whether we want to move to in person appointments.
In our initial conversation I will ask you to tell me a bit about what has bought you to therapy and what you want to achieve from it. I will also ask questions about your life circumstances and how you are feeling at the moment.
-
If after our first chat you feel that I am not the right therapist for you, that is absolutely fine, you are welcome to tell me then and there that you don’t feel that we are a fit or you can go away to think about it and come back to me if you decide you would like to work together.
-
It is my priority that you get the best support available, sometimes that will mean that we don’t work together and that I suggest you see an alternative therapist. Often therapists specialise in particular areas, if I feel that I won’t be able to meet your needs to my satisfaction I will explain that I don’t feel that I have the right experience or expertise to support you and I will suggest possible alternative therapists.
I understand that this could be disappointing for some and may feel rejecting, however, as therapists it is important that we work ethically and competently with clients and it is my belief that you deserve the best support for you.
-
If we decide to work together we will arrange a first therapy session where we will continue to explore what has bought you to therapy and what you want to gain from it. Our first therapy session will be chargeable and will be 50 minutes long. It will also be online.
-
In further sessions I will encourage you to feel at ease and for us to build a relationship to build a feeling of safety. This is to make it possible to open up for us to discuss what is concerning you.
-
It depends initially we will agree to meet for one session if we agree to work together we will agree to meet for six to eight weeks and then review if it feels helpful and work is beneficial enough to continue.
-
I will respond to contact out of session times for administrative purposes and will responded as promptly as possible, but it will not necessarily be immediate. As I don’t offer a crisis service there is no provision for emergency/out of session cover. There may be occasions where additional support may be mutually agreed. Please also see my useful numbers sheet for information about crisis services.
